Pack your bags – we’re taking this show on the road! This Wednesday, Ms. Wilkens and I will be headed to London, England to talk information literacy, fake news, and computer science with educators, artists, and community leaders from all over the world. We’ll be leading the session Is That Real?: Preparing Students to Outfox Fake News at this year’s MozFest, held at Ravensbourne College. In our session, we’ll be giving educators and community leaders the tools that they need to help the young people in their lives independently navigate the tricky world of online news with confident, critical thinking.  MozFest is an annual conference put on by Mozilla, and here’s one description: “MozFest is for advocates of a healthy Internet. Explore the intersection of the web with civil society, journalism, public policy, and art through interactive sessions.” (source) I’m not sure what to expect from this brilliant artistic, eclectic, tech-savvy crowd – but I am so excited to learn more!

We can’t wait to share all of the hard work that 4th graders have been doing in the St. Anne’s-Belfield School library, and to hopefully inspire other educators to tackle the topics of fake news and information literacy in their libraries.
