View this post on Instagram The Terrible Thing that Happened to Barnaby Brocket = Roald Dahl + Rainbow Rowell, with illustrations by Oliver Jeffers 😍 Barnaby Brocket has never been normal. From the moment he was born, Barnaby floated, unable to keep his feet on the ground. His parents were so embarrassed by his weird condition that they plan a terrible thing to get rid of him – but when Barnaby loses his home and his family, he gains the adventure, acceptance and friendship of other quirky weirdos around the world. What a magical book. Told with whimsical, lilting language that reminded me of Matilda, author John Boyne creates a celebration of the eccentric, the ostracized, and all others proud to be different. A diverse and colorful cast of characters includes: an unmarried pregnant teen, a same-sex couples, a young amputee, a burn victim, and more. Playful, magical, and filled with joy. Plus… anything touched by the magic of Oliver Jeffers is okay by me!
