Attention, 7th and 8th graders!
Consider this your official invitation to the our very exclusive End-of-the-World Book Club.
(Yes, you read that right.)
WHO: 7th and 8th grade students as well as staff like Mr. Price, Ms. Mathieson, Ms. Beckwith, Ms. Stevens, Mr. Gulotta, and yours truly!
WHAT: An exciting and thought-provoking book discussion about Life as We Knew It and The Dead & The Gone, both by Susan Beth Pfeffer*. These novels tell two different perspectives of the same apocalyptic event. In this unique book club, students get to choose the novel that they would like to read – or they can read both! When we come together, students will first meet and discuss with a small group that read the same novel, and then the groups will come together to discuss both perspectives. And because this is a STAB book club, you know that students will get to enjoy a delicious pizza lunch.
WHEN: Monday, December 5th, during 7th and 8th grade lunch.
WHERE: The Learning Village Library.
WHY: Because these thrilling books are sure to lead to some difficult and enlightening discussions, and I can’t wait to share them with readers.
See you there!
*A note for parents: Both apocalyptic novels feature challenging subject matter. Click the titles to read a short plot summary and parent reviews of Life as we Knew It and The Dead and the Gone. This book club is not mandatory. If you do not feel comfortable with our book choice, please discuss with your student before they sign up. We look forward to a challenging and engaging discussion surrounding the complicated topics in these novels.
