This display is designed to spark conversation and get students thinking. We wanted a display that helped students to see that Black history isn’t something old and stagnant, that can be learned and forgotten, but instead something living, breathing, and still happening right now (and not confined to a single month!). The hope was to help students understand that while the Civil Rights Movement is a critical piece of American history, it is only a tiny piece of the picture – there is so much more to learn, explore, celebrate, mourn, and understand. This display made me want to ask questions and take an active role in my learning, and I hope it will do the same for my students.

Do you have any suggestions to add? I’d love your feedback!

Black History Month is important, and I’m working on creating a more meaningful and engaging experience for my students this year. Learn more, and follow along, here
