Barack Obama’s Of Thee I Sing: A Letter to My Daughters

Second graders were so fascinated by Barack Obama’s picture book, Of Thee I Sing: A Letter to my Daughters. We started our lesson by learning a little bit more about Barack Obama’s life and career from two of our Black History Month displays, the Who Said That? game and the daily facts on the circulation desk (post coming tomorrow). Then we enjoyed the book page-by-page, sharing connections, questions, and ideas. There is SO much heart and inspiration packed into these 40 pages. I had to tear readers away at the end of our class period. Of Thee I Sing is a great read to inspire your students and get them thinking about what amazing contributions they can make to our great country, just like our Black History Month heroes.

Black History Month is important, and I’m working on creating a more meaningful and engaging experience for my students this year. Learn more, and follow along, here
