Does it Fart? by Nick Caruso and Dani Rabaiotti

Does it fart??

As a kid, this would have been the book of my dreams! First graders and I were nonstop giggles sharing this nonfiction book by Nick Caruso and Dani Rabaiotti. I love any opportunity to show my readers that nonfiction can be exciting, engaging, and educational, and this book is a perfect example! Each book features an animal with the question, “Does it fart?” This leaves time for the reader to pause and guess before they turn the page for the answer and a paragraph of text describing the animal’s eating habits, digestion, and other interesting facts. The illustrations are funny and surprising, and the text is spot on, so kids are laughing while they learn. We especially liked the first few pages, which defined the word “fart” and talked in detail about what causes farts and how they happen. These fart experts are sure to take their knowledge and spread it far and wide!

What are your favorite engaging books to break the stereotype that nonfiction is boring?
