November is Picture Book Month! As a part of our Picture Book Month celebration, the Johnson Elementary School Learning Leopard Library blog is searching for the best picture books around. I asked some of our staff members to share their favorite picture books with me, so that I could share them with you!
Miss Emily’s favorite picture book is Strega Nona, written and illustrated by Tomie dePaola. This magical story about a bottomless pasta pot with nearly disastrous consequences has been making students laugh, predict, and learn a serious lesson about responsibility since its original publication in 1975. Strega Nona has not only won a Caldecott Medal, but it was also named one of the Top 100 Picture Books of All Time by School Library Journal in 2012. Although dePaola has written many other books, Strega Nona is probably her best known – and Miss Emily’s favorite!
