In the mood for even more math? Next week, the library will be hosting a math activity called One Fish, Two Fish, Three Fish, Four Fish! Can you Estimate to Make These YOUR Fish? All week, two fish bowls will be set out on the library circulation desk for students to study. Students need to use their best math skills to estimate the number of fish swimming in each bowl. Be careful – some fish may be hiding! Students will write their name on a slip of paper with one guess per bowl, and put it in the answer box. On Thursday afternoon, Mrs. Stevens and I will determine the winners…and these skillful estimators will be rewarded with all of the fish in the bowl to share with their classmates!
Mrs. Stevens and I prepared a video to help prepare you to do your best estimating. In this video, Mrs. Stevens shares her best estimating tricks, as well as sharing the story How Much, How Many, How Far, How Heavy, How Long, How Tall is 1,000? by Helen Nolan. With a little bit of practice, you’ll have everything you need to make THESE fish YOUR fish!
Enjoy the video, and best of luck, estimators!
