With a Halloween buzz in the air this week, the library was anything but quiet and ordinary!

Pre-school kiddos took a dip into my extensive costume collection this week! Hats, vests, scarves, boas, sunglasses, wings… you name it, and this librarian’s got it. Once we were all dolled up, we shared fun musical halloween stories like Shake Dem Halloween Bones and Rattlebone Rock. We even got a little spooky with the classic folk tale The Teeny Tiny Woman! To close out our celebration, we had a hip-hop Halloween ball, rocking out to some monster tunes in our costumes.

Even the teachers got into the Halloween spirit with some costumes!

Older students got spooky in a different way, showing off their thesaurus skills on a project. Students had to describe their beloved pet monster on a LOST MONSTER poster – using juicy, descriptive words. Instead of “scary”, I challenged students to look up a synonym. And “big”? Yeah right! The thesaurus pages were flying as students took on this fun challenge. Once their descriptive language was edited, they were invited to draw the monster matching their description in the box.

Fourth grade used their Google Drive accounts to create their LOST MONSTER posters digitally. Once they finished adding in their descriptive words and details, students printed the posters and drew their monsters by hand.

Completed LOST MONSTER posters are even starting to show up on the walls around the school! Keep an eye out for these escaped little guys. If you find one, there might be quite a reward in store for you!

Circulation climbed to over 5,000 books this week! Here, a second grade student was so excited about the book that she found that she couldn’t even make it to the checkout line – she had to plunk down in the middle of the fiction section to start reading.

In BookIt! news, more than 80 students have now reached their BookIt goal! As students receive their coupons for the FREE personal pan pizza, they are coming to the library to fill out their raffle ticket for our BookIt! Raffle. We will draw one winner from each grade on Wednesday morning, and I know that our students are itching to get to those brand new, high-interest books! Good luck, everyone!
