The Virginia Festival of the Book is coming!
Next week, world famous authors, illustrators, and publishers will flock to Charlottesville to give talks, presentations, and seminars about books of every genre. They’ll talk about the writing process, the publishing process, graphic design, and creating characters. They’ll sign books, share new stories, and inspire people of all ages.
And we get to be a part of it!
As a part of the Charlottesville City School system, Johnson gets the incredible honor of being a part of the Festival of the Book each year. Yesterday we had fabulous visits from Deborah Heiligman, Allison Formento, and Mr. Alex-Zan! This year, we’ll have more all-star authors gracing our auditorium:

Sandy Pugh, author and illustrator of the Peepers books, including Meet Me at the Masterpiece: A Zany Look at Art and A Peeper in my Pocket

Anne Marie Pace, author of many books for children, including the Vampirina Ballerina series

On Friday, third and fourth graders will be traveling to see a presentation given by Kate DiCamillo, the 2014-2015 National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature. DiCamillo has won a number of awards, including Newberry Medals for both Flora and Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures and The Tale of Despereaux. DiCamillo is a featured author at the Virginia Festival of the Book this year, and we are thrilled to have been invited to her presentation!
