The votes have been counted and the winners are in! In this multi-week project, students composed nominations for their favorite books of the year via Google docs and shared them with me electronically. Once all of the nominees were shared, we had a good old fashioned debate to defend our favorites and sway our classmates’ votes! The finished result was a fun and engaging opportunity for fourth graders to share their passion for reading and leave their mark on some of the best books in the Johnson collection.
Without further ado, here are the winners of the 2014-2015 Book Awards, nominated and chosen by Johnson fourth grade students!
Best Comedy
The Book with No Pictures, by BJ Novak
Best Drama
The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle, by AVI
Best Biography
Henry’s Freedom Box: True Story from the Underground Railroad, by Ellen Levine
Best Picture Book
Battle Bunny, by John Scieszka and Mac Barnett, pictures by Matthew Myers
Best New Book
Battle Bunny, by John Scieszka and Mac Barnett, pictures by Matthew Myers
And the award we’ve all been waiting for…. (drumroll, please)
Best Book of the Year
Warriors: Into the Wild, by Erin Hunter
Congratulations to all of our winners! These books battled hard and fought valliantly. We had some very close races but in the end, the people have spoken! Each book received an award like the one pictured above on their cover, and their award will remain in place for Johnson students to enjoy in the years to come.
Thanks to fourth graders for all of your hard work on this fun project. These awards will be great mementos when we’re missing you next year after you’re off to read in the Walker library!
