Go ahead, time it! View this post on Instagram Kindness. It's at the root of everything. The kindness of family, of teachers, of literature, of friends. The unexpected kindnesses that find you at rock bottom and help you to stand back up. Books about kindness can end up coming across as preachy – but thanks to main character Travis' stoic narration, Bluefish remains authentic and interesting. Loved the subplot of Travis learning to read, the teachers that reach into the darkness to find him, and the literature that helps to light his way. Bluefish's counter-culture characters were interesting and engaging, and the book sped by. Some details are fuzzy and confusing at the beginning, but it all falls satisfyingly into place by the end. Social emotional learning wrapped in an intriguing package – great for middle grade and YA readers alike. #amreading #bookcover #ireadya #read #book #reader #librarian #youngadult #bookreview #weneeddiversebooks #kindness #bekind #readkindbekind A post shared by Ms. Fitz (she/her) (@fitzbetweentheshelves) on Dec 17, 2016 at 2:19pm PST Share this: Share on X (Opens in new window) X Share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook Like Loading...
