It’s likely to be one of the weirdest summers ever, but time waits for no one! The days are getting longer, the school year is wrapping up, and summer reading is on the way. To help you get your TBR list ready, here are the library interns with their best reading suggestions. Get our your library card and prepare to put some books on hold! (Or, if you prefer to buy, consider ordering from Bookshop.org – it supports local independent bookstores, who need all the love they can get right now!)

  • Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus

  • The Keepers of the Lost Cities series

  • The War that Saved my Life (and its sequel)

  • The Unwanteds series

  • The Mystery of Alice*

  • The Secret Zoo series

  • The Shadowshapers trilogy*

  • Pride – A Pride and Prejudice Remix*

  • Interview with a Robot

  • The Claw

  • The Box of Bones

  • Blended

  • Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe*

  • The Mysterious Benedict Society series

  • The Magic Misfits series

  • Diary of a Sixth Grade Ninja

  • A Tale of Highly Unusual Magic

  • The Ruby Redfort series

Our library interns range from 5th grade to 8th grade, so these suggestions are a mix of middle grade and young adult. The * next to a title means that the library interns feel that that book might be considered scary, intense, or mature for middle grade readers.

Do you have any great titles to add to the list?
