It looks like Mother Nature was not interested in our Read Across America plans this week! With snow days on Monday and Tuesday and a two-hour delay today, some of our Read Across America celebrations have had to be changed to fit the new schedule.
The main change that Johnson students are buzzing about is our 5,000 Book Challenge, which has now become a 3,000 Book Challenge! The same rules and guidelines still apply, but our total has been brought down to fit our smaller time frame. If we can reach our new goal of 3,000 books read by Friday at noon, then a victory dance party is ours! If we can’t reach our goal, students will still receive a small Seuss prize for their hard work. And, of course, we’ll try again next year… hopefully without the snow storm this time!
The weather may have done some damage outside, but it has done nothing to damper our Spirit Days! Despite starting two hours late yesterday, Johnson students and staff members showed off their love for Seuss by dressing in honor of his book Wacky Wednesday. I was impressed by the delightfully wacky clothing that I saw… from tutus and leopard print socks to backwards tshirts and mustache sunglasses. Even our staff members got extra wacky for the event!

So far, Johnson students have shown great Seuss spirit and read over a thousand books toward our 3,000 Book Challenge goal. I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
Happy Read Across America Week!
